Objects Of The Game

Bring it on! Texas Holdem world-wide tournaments have invaded homes across the globe thanks to cable television. The bucking bronco-style Texas Holdem owes its popularity to lightening-fast, action-packed wins and losses. The main difference between what you see on TV and Low Limit Texas Holdem is the amount of money at stake. Televised Texas Holdem tournaments are usually no-limit poker games. High-stakes tension adds to the excitement and the ratings, but don't attempt this at home, kids! Fortunes are won in lost in the blink of an eye in the tournaments. If you're a rank amateur, start with Low Limit Texas Holdem, sometimes as low as 25¢/50¢ per hand until you're comfortable with the rules, the strategies, and your own discipline.

Low Limit Texas Holdem : Object of the Game

The object of Texas Holdem is to create a winning hand from 2 personal downcards (called holecards) and 5 boardcards. The boardcards are community cards (called the flop). Players combine their 2 personal cards with any 3 boardcards to create their "hand."

Low Limit Texas Holdem : Betting

Each player can bet up to 4 times per hand, and the winner takes all, unless there is a ties, in which case the pot is split equally. Suppose that the betting limit is $2/$4. The first two rounds of betting are limited to betting and raising by $2.00; the last two rounds of betting are limited to betting and raising by $4.00. You can raise or bet only the lower amount in the first two rounds of betting, and you can raise or bet only the higher amount in the last two rounds of betting.

Low Limit Texas Holdem : How the Game Works

· The game starts with two blind bets. (Suppose that the limit is $2/$4.) The player seated to the left of the dealer places a bet equal to half the lower betting limit ($1), called the small blind bet. The player to the left of the small blind places the big blind bet ($2), the full lower-limit bet.

· The dealer deals two holecards face down to each player, followed by a round of betting.

· The dealer deals 3 boardcards face up, followed by a round of betting.

· The dealer deals 1 more boardcard (called the turn) face up, followed by a round of betting.

· The dealer deals the final boardcard (called the river) face up, followed by a round of betting.

· Each player builds the best possible hand from the holecards and 3 of the 5 boardcards. This is called the showdown, and the winner takes the pot.

· In the unlikely event that the 5 boardcards create the best hand, everyone splits the pot.
